Table 1

Results of the generalized additive models (GAMs) on the effects of fishing gear, sex, day of fishing and depth (independent variables) on spotted flounder individual total length (TL), gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI), and condition factor (CF) for all individuals and separately for juveniles and mature/adult fish. The variables denoted by s() were considered continuous and a spline function was used for fitting. F-values of the analysis of deviance are indicated for each independent (explanatory) variable. Variables denoted by “–” were not included according to the Akaike information criterion selection. Significant effects at the 0.05 confidence level are denoted by an asterisk and in bold typeface. The percentage of deviance explained by the final model (including only the variables with significant effects) is also indicated.
